Wat Traimit

In the Chinatown section of Bangkok's Wat Traimit - the home of a large Buddha image. Growing to 15 feet, in a country where Buddha images, sometimes shot 32 feet into the air, maybe some people wonder what is so strange about an image of Buddha which is relatively small in comparison with others. Answer - This image of Buddha is pure gold!

Weighing just over five tonnes, the image of Buddha at Wat Traimit has a market value between 15 and 20 million dollars. If nothing else, worth watching only because of its visual impact! Designed in a style "Sukothai, the painting was created in the early 13th century and covered with plaster. For many years he was known to be made of gold and in 1930 it was located in an abandoned temple. It is only when the image was prepared for change to Wat Traimit in 1955 that cracked the plaster to expose the gold underneath.

But see the golden Buddha image, people will also visit Wat Traimit to learn more about their future. Instead of talking to a monk or a "moo-doo" fortune teller () people use Fortune-telling slot machines on the temple grounds. Machinery select a number for you, and you can get a piece of paper that corresponds to the number. The sheet explains in English, Chinese and Thai that you can expect in the future. Very fun and worship in the temple are eager users.
Details: Access to the Golden Buddha is 20 baht.

Getting there: Wat Traimit is near the Odeon roundabout which marks the entrance to Chinatown. The closest Express boat pier Ratchawong Pier.
